In the 5th grade, my dad bought me a programming book called "C++ for Dummies". I was an awful student and would be in detention every single day… so instead of doing my schoolwork, I'd just read my C++ book and write little programs with a pencil and take the code home to test it out. They were really simple, rudimentary programs - but still gave me an introduction to coding.
At the same time, I was hustling snacks and sodas out of my backpack to make money. The school staff hated this and shut me down. That didn't stop me, though, it just made me more sneaky LOL
In high school, I started to take programming more seriously. I still had that itch to hustle and make money, so I started religiously studying web development and freelancing via Upwork and LinkedIn. I was still an awful student, so I'd sneak out of class to find empty rooms to take my sales calls in. My principal HATED this and would hunt me down and crash my sales calls - but that didn't stop me from closing my first few clients.
After I got my first taste of paying freelance clients, I was addicted and dedicated all of my energy to it. I'd be waking up at 3am to work before school and taking meetings with business owners during and after school. I continued this until I graduated from high school (barely) and decided to skip college and just pour every waking hour into freelancing.
This all built the foundation for my GTM career and put me years ahead of the competition.
Thats how I'm 23 years old with 7-8 years of experience. Not bad, huh?
